Project EP and Summer plans

Jordan and Eli renewed their gear at the beginning of the year. And it is time to introduce a bit more in detail some of our set-up:

Jordan researched for a while, not quite happy with his main keyboard, and fell in love with the sound and settings of the Crumar Seven. The Crumar became his main instrument! On top of it is RolandSH-01A, one of the synths. To the right of him sits a Roland VR09, which used to be the main, but now it functions as an organ and synth. Above that is a Mininova synth used as Vocoder. There’s never enough! 🙂 The Crumar and the SH-01A are going into their own pedal boards, using some of the effects, before going into Jordan’s own mixer. The VR09 and the Mininova are going straight into said mixer. From the mixer there is one Aux out to his own Boss Katana50 amp (Eli’s old amp), which he uses as a monitor.

Jordans set up

Eli switched her amp back to a Fender Rumble 40, an amp that she became very familiar with in NZ. All the settings on her Boss GT3 pedal board needed some adjustment due to the much bassier sound of the Rumble; a great difference in her overall sound!

Currently we are preparing and equipping for a bigger recording session as a band. We got six songs lined up and are working on the details of each song. We start recording towards the end of June. Dates are set and we will approach this by recording the whole band in our band practice room, getting all the drum tracks recorded first, and everyone’s direct inputs. Afterwards we will discuss which instrument needs redoing and get the vocal tracks done. Two songs a day over three recording days, hopefully making it through all six songs to finalise the EP as a Practice Room -session so to speak.

And of course during our practice times now, we are already tweaking parts and solos. Making last minute changes, which is always a fun thing to wrap your head around before recording. Juhani has it the hardest, since we are rearranging his guitar parts left and right.

During our band meetings we have mostly been warming up with extended jam sessions. Lately we started to record the songs during the practice as well. As Eero drops each file in our group chat, we text feedback for each other, but have also been meeting to analyse the tracks together, making notes here and there. It has been very productive approach and these six songs don’t feel raw anymore.

Of course there is the itch to write more material, but we focus on “Project EP” for now.

Everyone is fairly busy with their own plans this summer, so there is no clear release date/deadline of the EP just yet. Besides this project we are celebrating Eero and Satu getting married, followed by Taavi and Jordan being part of an orchestra at the Slot Art Festival in Poland.

Jordan and Eli will help out Taavi with his drum circle workshops thay will be held every day during the Festival. They are excited to learn more about his big variety of percussion instruments.

More info on the festival here: Slot Art Festival

We will keep you updated!
